Your wedding day is one of the best days of your life. But, lets face it, planning a wedding is stressful! Here are our top yoga poses to get you feeling calm, strong, and balanced before your big day!
Our favorite wedding day yoga sequence:
#1 Sukhasana or Easy Pose
Don’t be fooled by the name, sitting still is rarely easy. Feel your sit bones root down into the earth and lengthen the crown of your head to the sky. Start to notice your breath. Take 5 deep belly breaths here.
#2 Marjaiasana or Cat | Cow Pose
Freedom in the pelvis, freedom in the heart. I love this string of movements because it brings breath and motion into the pelvis and the heart. Flowing from cat to cow pose is a great way to warm up the body, ease tension in the spine and build strength in the core.
#3 Surya Namaskar A or Modified Sun Salutation
Let's start to move! Try flowing through this series of movement with your breath. Take your time, moving slowly and mindfully.
Inhale: lift your arms up over head. Exhale: hinge at your hips to forward fold. Inhale: place you hands on your shins and half way lift. Exhale: forward fold. Inhale: step your right foot back. Exhale: drop your left knee and root into your feet. Inhale: lift your arms up. Exhale: lower your arms to frame your foot. Step you front foot back and pause in high plank. On your next exhale, bend your elbows straight back for a chaturanga. Inhale: lifet your heart forward and up. Exhale: press back to downdog. Inhale: step your right foot forward. Exhale: drop your back knee root down into your feet. Inhale: lift your arms up over head. Exhale: lower your arms down and step your back foot forward. Inhale: halfway lift. Exhale: fold. Inhale: lift your arms up.
Repeat 3 times, alternating legs.
#4 Virabhadrasana 1- Warrior One
Step your right foot back and step slightly to the right. Turn the foot to a 45 degree angle. Bend into your left knee and lift your arms up. Draw your right hip forward and pull your left hip back. Take 5 full breaths here feeling your inner warrior. Let your power and strength shine through. Repeat on the other side.
#5 Virabhadrasana 2 - Warrior Two
Step your left foot back and turn your foot to be parallel with the back edge of the mat. Bend into the right knee and extend your arms out to the side. Take your gaze over your right finger tips. Deepen into your front knee and allow the pelvis to descend. With every exhale, allow your lower body to get heavier, with every inhale allow your upper body to be light and to lengthen up to the sky. Repeat on the other side.
#6 Setu Bandha Sarvangasana - Bridge
Take your feet under your knees. Press down through your feet and lift your hips straight up. Keep the back of your head heavy on the mat. Breathe into your chest. Stay here for 5 breaths.
#7 Figure Four
Time to relax and breathe into your hips. Lay on your back with your knees bent. Take your right ankle onto your left thigh. Flex your right foot and work your knee away from your chest. Breathe into the back of your pelvis for 5 breaths. Repeat on the other side.
#8 Baddha Konasana - Bound Angle Pose
Take your feet together and knees open wide into a ‘butterfly’ shape. Place blocks under your knees so your nervous system knows it can fully relax. Place one hand on your belly, one hand out your heart and watch your breath move in and out of your body.
#9 Savasana - Corpse Pose
Relax! We know planning a wedding can be exhausting, give yourself 10 minutes to close your eyes and rest.
